Android 12 included new settings to control access to your device's camera and microphone. As a UX writer for Android, I wrote all of the copy for privacy settings, quick settings, and dialogs related to the feature.

This feature presented many challenges from a UX writing perspective, including user confusion around what statuses of "on" and "off" meant in relation to a device camera and microphone. To address user feedback, I came up with "Camera access" and "Mic access" with statuses of "Available" and "Blocked." Within privacy settings, I wrote clear subtext that explained that the toggle for this feature controlled access for all apps and services on a user's device.
